Winter in Wyoming…
Two days ago I was on the sunny beaches of Cancun and today I was in blizzard in Wyoming. There’s never a dull day in the speaking business! That’s why I love it.
Wyoming, the cowboy state, is gorgeous. I’ve gotten to spend several hours driving around the high plains and the mountains. The whole time I kept expecting John Wayne or The Lone Ranger to ride by.
This morning I got to within 60 miles of Jackson but I had to turn back because the mountain roads were covered with snow. I stopped for directions at a gas station and the local cowboys gave me a hard time for not dressing for the cold weather (I was still dressed Caribbean style – shorts and a polo shirt!). “Son, didn’t your Mamma teach you to wear a sweater?”
I had a cup of coffee and had to walk across a snowy field to get to their bathroom. By the time I got back to the car, my Topsiders were filled with snow.
Hey, those are the little things that make a trip memorable!
Today I got to speak about success, entrepreneurship, and character to a few hundred student representatives of DECA, an association of high school and college students interested in business, entrepreneurship, marketing, sales, and management.
Great group of kids. They were all driven, go-getter types that will definitely make some big things happen in the future.
I wish I had known about DECA when I went to school. I’m sure being a part of that group would have shaved a few years from my learning curve.
If your kids are into business, make sure they know about DECA. It will surround them with like minded people.
